A blog about me and my life. Stages that I'm going through, struggling with weight loss, dealing with a disability, family growing older and farther apart.

Retinitis Pigmentosa

I followed up on my idea to look up possible implant surgery for mom's problem of retinitis pigmentosa. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are several implants that are in clinical trials.

A few that I looked at are:

The Argus II which is basically a camera in eyeglasses with a receiver implanted in the eye itself by Second Sight in California.

I just found this one Boston Retinal Implant Project.

The Artificial Silicon Retina Implant done by Illinois Retina Associates, S.C.

Optobionics

Intelligent Retinal Implant System

I think I liked the last two the best but Optobionics is small time still and the other one is based in New Zealand.

There are several others that are gearing up for the decades long process of getting FDA approval so there is hope for Mom's eyesight on the horizon at least.
